Overview

MB6 is a potent methylazanediyl bisacetamide derivative that functions as a selective, membrane-active antimicrobial adjuvant. It is specifically designed to target and disrupt the cell membranes of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), including persister cells, which are typically tolerant to conventional antibiotics. While MB6 possesses limited standalone bactericidal activity against MRSA persisters, it significantly potentiates the efficacy of antibiotics such as gentamicin and daptomycin. It facilitates the cellular uptake of gentamicin and works synergistically with daptomycin to enhance membrane disruption. Research indicates that a triple combination of MB6, gentamicin, and daptomycin is highly effective at eradicating MRSA persisters without significant toxicity to mammalian cells.
