MBI-06-01 (also known as MTS-01) is a topical gel formulation of the stable nitroxide radical **tempol** (4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl), developed by Matrix Biomed for the prevention of radiation dermatitis. As a superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic and broad-spectrum antioxidant, MBI-06-01 works by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reducing oxidative stress in skin cells exposed to ionizing radiation during cancer treatment. By mitigating the inflammatory cascade and cellular damage caused by radiotherapy, it aims to prevent the development of painful skin reactions. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials, specifically targeting patients with breast cancer undergoing radiation therapy.
