MBI-401 is a Tempol-based small molecule developed by Matrix Biomed. It is designed to modulate the activity of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 1 (HIF-1) and Hypoxia-Inducible Factor 2 (HIF-2), which are master transcription factors responsible for the cellular response to hypoxia and are heavily involved in cancer progression and treatment-related side effects. MBI-401 is specifically being investigated for its ability to mitigate toxicities associated with chemotherapy, with a primary focus on cisplatin-induced toxicities. By modulating the HIF pathway, the drug aims to protect healthy tissues from the damaging effects of cytotoxic agents. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development.
