Overview

MBL-HCV1 is a fully human monoclonal antibody developed to prevent recurrence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in patients undergoing liver transplantation. It targets a linear epitope on the HCV E2 envelope glycoprotein (amino acids 412-423), neutralizing the virus and preventing it from infecting liver cells. The antibody has been studied in combination with direct-acting antivirals such as telaprevir and sofosbuvir, primarily for use in the peri-transplant period to protect the new liver from HCV reinfection[4][5][6]. MBL-HCV1 was shown to delay viral rebound and reduce viral load post-transplant compared to placebo, but resistance-associated variants can emerge[5][6]. The drug was developed by MassBiologics.
