MBO7133 (also known as MB07133) is a HepDirect prodrug of cytarabine monophosphate (araCMP), designed to deliver the active metabolite of cytarabine specifically to liver cells. Cytarabine is an anti-cancer drug primarily used in the treatment of leukemia. However, its effectiveness against primary liver cancer is limited due to poor conversion to its active form in the liver. MBO7133 uses HepDirect technology to bypass this limitation by targeting araCMP directly to hepatocytes, where it is rapidly cleaved and converted into cytarabine triphosphate—the oncolytically active form that inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in tumor cells[1][4]. The approach aims for enhanced efficacy against hepatic tumors while reducing systemic toxicity.
