MBP-Y003b is a preclinical-stage nanoparticle drug delivery system developed by Mebiopharm for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The drug utilizes Mebiopharm's proprietary transferrin-conjugated liposome (Tf-liposome) technology, which leverages the overexpression of the transferrin receptor (TfR, also known as CD71) on activated macrophages and synovial fibroblasts within inflamed joints. By decorating the surface of the liposomal carrier with transferrin ligands, MBP-Y003b facilitates receptor-mediated endocytosis, thereby delivering its therapeutic payload directly into the cells responsible for joint inflammation. This targeted approach is intended to enhance the local concentration of the drug at the site of disease while minimizing systemic exposure and associated side effects.
