MBP-Y004 is a preclinical-stage nanoparticle drug delivery system developed by Mebiopharm, utilizing their proprietary Transferrin-conjugated Liposome (Tf-liposome) technology. The therapeutic consists of the microtubule-stabilizing agent paclitaxel encapsulated within liposomes that are surface-modified with transferrin ligands. This design targets the transferrin receptor (TfR/CD71), a protein frequently upregulated in malignant tissues such as ovarian, breast, and non-small cell lung cancers to meet increased iron demands. By binding to TfR, MBP-Y004 is internalized via receptor-mediated endocytosis, potentially enhancing the concentration of paclitaxel within tumor cells while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues, thereby improving the therapeutic index over conventional paclitaxel.
