MBP091 is an investigational human IgG1 lambda monoclonal antibody directed against the glycoprotein of Marburg virus, being developed as an antiviral treatment for Marburg virus disease (MVD), a severe filoviral hemorrhagic fever. It was derived from a naturally occurring neutralizing antibody isolated from a human survivor of Marburg infection and subsequently humanized and optimized for therapeutic use.[3][10][11] By binding to the Marburg virus surface glycoprotein, MBP091 is designed to neutralize the virus and block its ability to infect host cells, thereby reducing viral replication and improving clinical outcomes.[3][7][10] The antibody is being developed by Mapp Biopharmaceutical with support from the US Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority and has entered clinical evaluation, including expanded access and randomized trials that test it alone and in combination with the nucleotide analogue antiviral remdesivir in patients with confirmed or suspected Marburg virus disease.[1][3][5][9][11]
