MBT-1316 is an orally bioavailable small molecule capsid assembly modulator (CAM) developed by Beijing Junke Huayuan Pharmaceutical Technology for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It specifically targets the HBV core protein (HBcAg), which is crucial for the assembly of the viral nucleocapsid and the replication of the viral genome. By binding to the core protein, MBT-1316 disrupts the proper assembly of the viral capsid, leading to the formation of defective or empty capsids and preventing the packaging of pregenomic RNA (pgRNA). This mechanism effectively inhibits the production of new infectious virions and reduces the levels of circulating viral DNA. MBT-1316 is currently undergoing early-phase clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, pharmacokinetics, and antiviral activity in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
