Overview

MBX 4291 is an investigational long-acting peptide prodrug that acts as a dual agonist of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP‑1R) and gastric inhibitory polypeptide receptor (GIPR). It is being developed by MBX Biosciences for the treatment of obesity. Designed using the company’s proprietary Precision Endocrine Peptide (PEP™) platform, it aims to provide once-monthly dosing, improved gastrointestinal tolerability, and increased maximal weight loss compared to existing therapies. In preclinical studies, its active component demonstrated similar activity and body weight loss as tirzepatide but with a longer duration of action, supporting potential for less frequent administration[1][2][5][6].
