MC-4232 is a pharmaceutical-grade cannabinoid combination therapy developed by MediCane Health Inc. for the treatment of Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD), such as agitation and aggression. The formulation contains a specific, proprietary ratio of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) administered as an oral solution. Its therapeutic effect is mediated through the modulation of the endocannabinoid system; THC acts as a partial agonist at CB1 and CB2 receptors, while CBD serves as a negative allosteric modulator of CB1 and interacts with various non-cannabinoid receptors like the 5-HT1A serotonin receptor. This combination aims to leverage the sedative and analgesic properties of THC while utilizing CBD to improve the safety profile and provide additional neuroprotective effects, specifically targeting the neurobehavioral disturbances common in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
