Overview
MC2-25 cream is a topical therapeutic candidate developed by MC2 Therapeutics for the treatment of chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP), also known as uremic pruritus. The formulation utilizes the company's proprietary PAD™ (Polyaphron Dispersion) technology, which is designed to provide a stable, non-greasy, and moisturizing vehicle that enhances the delivery of the active ingredient into the skin. MC2-25 acts as an antagonist of the Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channel, a non-selective cation channel expressed on sensory nerve endings that plays a critical role in the transmission of itch and pain signals. By blocking TRPV1, the drug aims to disrupt the itch-scratch cycle and provide relief for patients suffering from uremic pruritus. MC2-25 is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials.
