Overview

Superluminal Medicines is developing an orally administered, small-molecule biased agonist of the melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R). This compound is engineered to selectively activate specific signaling pathways within the MC4R system, which is a critical regulator of energy homeostasis and appetite. By utilizing a biased signaling approach, the drug aims to achieve therapeutic efficacy in weight management while avoiding common side effects associated with non-selective MC4R activation. The program is initially targeting rare genetic conditions such as Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) and hypothalamic obesity, with future potential for treating general obesity, including in combination with GLP-1 receptor agonists. An IND submission for the program is anticipated in the second half of 2026.
