Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MCC-2 is a synthetic analog of (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) developed by researchers at the University of Southern California. Designed to overcome the poor bioavailability, stability, and membrane permeability of native EGCG, MCC-2 serves as an immunomodulatory and antibacterial agent. It potentiates the host immune system to clear intracellular reservoirs of Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant S. aureus, or MRSA) in macrophages and whole blood by activating the 67 kDa laminin receptor (67LR, also known as ribosomal protein SA) pathway. Additionally, MCC-2 exhibits direct antibacterial activity and works synergistically with standard antibiotics like beta-lactams to restore susceptibility in resistant strains.
