Overview

MCLO-12 is a septapeptide with the sequence FHGKGHE (Phe-His-Gly-Lys-Gly-His-Glu), isolated from the bitter melon plant (*Momordica charantia* L.). It has demonstrated anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic activity against non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells in preclinical studies. The peptide's mechanism of action involves the suppression of the thioredoxin (Trx) system and the induction of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). These actions trigger the activation of the ASK1, p38 MAPK, and JNK signaling pathways, leading to caspase activation and apoptosis in cancer cells.
