Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MCMV-B5 is a preclinical recombinant murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) viral vector vaccine candidate designed to boost and prolong immunity against malaria. It is engineered to express the *Plasmodium chabaudi* merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP-1) CD4+ T-cell epitope B5. Developed by researchers at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, the University of Texas Medical Branch, and collaborating institutions, MCMV-B5 acts as a booster to live malaria vaccines. It functions by stimulating and maintaining parasite-specific effector T cells (Teff) and effector memory T cells (Tem), while the MCMV vector itself provides non-specific adjuvant properties through prolonged stimulation of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ).
