Overview

MCMV-OVA is a **recombinant murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) vector genetically engineered to express the model ovalbumin (OVA) antigen**, typically as the immunodominant epitope OVA257–264 under the control of an MCMV promoter such as ie2. This recombinant virus is used exclusively in preclinical research as a tool to investigate T cell responses, immune memory, and vaccine design, and is not a therapeutic drug for human use. MCMV-OVA is employed to study how persistent infections or vaccination with CMV-based vectors can induce robust, long-lived CD8+ T cell responses against a defined (OVA) antigen. It has become a standard model for exploring antigen-specific T cell memory inflation and residency, particularly in murine and immunology studies. The vector is not developed by a commercial pharmaceutical company but constructed in academic and research laboratories for experimental purposes.
