MCMV3068A is a humanized mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody developed for the prevention and treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. It specifically targets the gH/gL/UL128/UL130/UL131 complex (also known as the pentameric complex) on the surface of human CMV, which is essential for viral entry into epithelial cells, endothelial cells, and macrophages[1][5][8]. MCMV3068A exhibits high-affinity binding to this epitope but does not prevent infection of fibroblasts. It has been studied primarily in combination with another monoclonal antibody, MCMV5322A, as part of a dual-antibody therapy (RG7667), aiming to block CMV entry into all key susceptible cell types and suppress viral resistance[5][6]. The drug was investigated in clinical trials for preventing maternal-fetal transmission of congenital CMV and for prophylaxis in high-risk kidney transplant recipients[3][7]. Development was led by Genentech.
