Overview

mCOMBRIAX (mRNA-1083) is a messenger RNA (mRNA)-based combination vaccine developed by Moderna. It is designed to provide simultaneous protection against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 in a single injection. The vaccine contains mRNA molecules that encode the full-length, membrane-bound hemagglutinin (HA) glycoproteins of seasonal influenza virus types A (H1N1 and H3N2) and B (Victoria lineage), as well as the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (specifically the N-terminal domain and receptor-binding domain). By delivering these mRNA sequences, the vaccine instructs host cells to synthesize the viral antigens, thereby eliciting a protective immune response. mCOMBRIAX is indicated for individuals 50 years of age and older and is the first combination vaccine of its kind to receive a positive recommendation from the EMA's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP).
