Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MCPyV T-antigen vaccine refers to a class of therapeutic cancer vaccines designed to target the Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) T-antigen oncoproteins, specifically the Large T-antigen (LT) and Small T-antigen (ST). These oncoproteins are constitutively expressed in approximately 80% of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) cases (virus-positive MCC) and are essential for tumor cell survival and oncogenesis, making them ideal tumor-specific antigens. Various vaccine platforms, including plasmid DNA (such as ITI-3000), mRNA, and peptide-based formulations, are being developed by academic institutions and biotechnology companies (such as Immunomic Therapeutics, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the University of Virginia) to elicit robust CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell immune responses against these viral antigens to treat or prevent recurrence of virus-positive Merkel cell carcinoma.
