MCT-485 is a discovery-stage, very small synthetic double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) anticancer therapeutic being developed by MultiCell Technologies for primary liver cancer and other tumors. It is a low–molecular weight noncoding dsRNA, described as a polyA:polyU duplex of approximately 5 base pairs, with direct tumor cytolytic and oncolytic activity that preferentially kills tumor-initiating cells such as cancer stem cells while sparing normal liver cells.[4][7][11][13][3] MCT-485 is reported to activate Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) signaling and to induce robust TNF-alpha and other immune mediators, conferring both direct cytotoxic and immune-activating antitumor effects, and is being evaluated with targeted nanoparticle delivery platforms to enhance uptake into hepatocellular carcinoma cells.[4][5][6][9][15]
