Overview

mct1 siRNA refers to small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to target and silence the expression of monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1, encoded by the SLC16A1 gene). MCT1 is a proton-coupled transmembrane transporter that mediates the bidirectional transport of monocarboxylates, primarily lactate, across cell membranes. In many cancers, MCT1 is upregulated to facilitate lactate efflux, preventing intracellular acidification and promoting cell survival, proliferation, and migration (the Warburg effect). Silencing MCT1 via siRNA has been widely investigated in preclinical research to inhibit tumor growth, reverse drug resistance, and reduce liver fibrosis in metabolic diseases like nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
