Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MCV-5 is a pentavalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine being developed by AJ Vaccines in collaboration with Hilleman Laboratories. It is designed to provide protection against five serogroups of *Neisseria meningitidis* (A, C, W, Y, and X), expanding upon the coverage provided by existing quadrivalent vaccines. The vaccine utilizes conjugated capsular antigens to induce antibody-mediated immunity, specifically targeting invasive meningococcal infections such as meningitis and septicemia. The partnership between AJ Vaccines and Hilleman Laboratories (a joint venture between Merck/MSD and the Wellcome Trust) aims to provide an affordable and effective solution for regions with a high burden of meningococcal disease, particularly the African meningitis belt.
