MD-Knee is an injectable medical device containing purified porcine collagen, developed by Guna S.p.a. for the management of knee osteoarthritis. It is designed to provide mechanical support to the joint, acting as a bio-scaffold that stabilizes the joint capsule and ligaments. By improving the histological structure of the collagen fibers in the joint, it helps to reduce pain and improve mobility. Clinical evidence from randomized controlled trials indicates that MD-Knee is non-inferior to sodium hyaluronate (viscosupplementation) in alleviating symptoms of knee osteoarthritis over a six-month period. The collagen used has a molecular weight of approximately 300,000 daltons and is produced through tangential filtration to ensure purity.
