MD05 is an investigational, locally implanted osteoinductive bone-graft material developed by Scil Technology for dental and maxillofacial bone regeneration. It consists of recombinant human growth and differentiation factor 5 embedded as a coating on a beta-tricalcium phosphate carrier. The carrier provides an osteoconductive, resorbable scaffold, while recombinant GDF-5 is intended to activate bone morphogenetic protein signaling and promote osteogenic regeneration. MD05 was evaluated in Phase 2 clinical studies for maxillary sinus-floor augmentation and periodontal intrabony defects; a published sinus-lift study reported bone formation and safety comparable with beta-tricalcium phosphate mixed with autologous bone.
