MDA2-targeted manganese G8 dendrimers are a diagnostic agent designed for in vivo magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of atherosclerotic lesions. This construct utilizes G8 dendrimers, a type of nanoparticle, conjugated with manganese (via MnDTPA) to serve as an MR contrast agent. The specificity of the agent is achieved through the covalent attachment of the MDA2 antibody, a murine IgG monoclonal antibody, which targets malondialdehyde (MDA)-lysine epitopes. These oxidation-specific epitopes (OSE) are key factors in atherosclerotic plaque progression and destabilization. The drug aims to deliver a high payload of manganese to macrophage-rich plaques, enabling enhanced detection and imaging of these lesions, offering a potentially clinically translatable alternative to gadolinium-based agents.
