Overview

MDCK cell-based quadrivalent influenza virus split vaccine is an inactivated influenza vaccine produced using Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cell culture technology. Unlike traditional egg-based vaccines, this manufacturing process utilizes mammalian cell lines to propagate the virus, which helps maintain the antigenic integrity of the circulating strains by avoiding egg-adaptive mutations. The vaccine is 'split,' meaning the virus particles are chemically disrupted to reduce reactogenicity while maintaining immunogenicity. As a quadrivalent formulation, it contains antigens (hemagglutinin) from four influenza strains: two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). It is being evaluated for safety and immunogenicity in individuals aged 3 years and older.
