MDCO-2010

MDCO-2010 is a novel, synthetic small molecule serine protease inhibitor with strong antifibrinolytic and moderate anticoagulant activity. It was developed as an intravenous antifibrinolytic agent intended to reduce blood loss during surgery, particularly in settings such as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The drug acts by inhibiting serine proteases involved in fibrinolysis and coagulation pathways. Originally developed by Curacyte AG and later by The Medicines Company, MDCO-2010 was considered a potential alternative to aprotinin for surgical blood loss prevention. However, its development was discontinued after Phase 2 trials due to serious unexpected patient safety issues[1][3][4][5].
