mdl-001

MDL-001 is a first-in-class, orally bioavailable, small molecule broad-spectrum antiviral developed by Model Medicines. It acts as a direct inhibitor of viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), specifically targeting the conserved Thumb-1 site across pathogenic RNA viruses. MDL-001 has demonstrated efficacy against multiple viral pathogens of pandemic potential, including SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A H1N1, with nanomolar potency in cell-based assays and significant reduction of viral load in animal models. The drug exhibits favorable pharmacokinetics with high lung accumulation and an extended half-life supporting once-daily dosing. In Phase 1 clinical trials involving approximately 100 healthy subjects, MDL-001 was safe and well-tolerated at doses up to 200 mg/day for 28 days[1][2][3][4][5][7].
