MDOCi, also referred to as micro dispersed derivatives of oxidised cellulose (MDOC), is a substance investigated for its potential anti-inflammatory and hypolipidemic effects. In an apolipoprotein-E-deficient (apoE(-/-)) mouse model of atherosclerosis, MDOCi was observed to significantly diminish the endothelial expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule (VCAM-1), a key participant in leukocyte adhesion and atherogenesis. While it showed an insignificant lowering of total cholesterol levels, its anti-inflammatory action on VCAM-1 suggests a potential benefit in atherosclerosis.
