Overview

Me-rEGF (Microencapsulated recombinant human epidermal growth factor) is a specialized formulation of recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) designed for topical application to accelerate wound healing. The microencapsulation technology is intended to protect the growth factor from degradation and provide a controlled release profile at the wound site. Me-rEGF functions as an agonist of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), triggering signaling pathways that promote cell proliferation, migration, and tissue repair. Preclinical studies presented at the EADV Congress (2023-2025) have investigated its safety, specifically demonstrating that topical administration does not promote the growth or progression of melanoma (B16-F10 models) despite its mitogenic properties. The research is primarily driven by academic and medical institutions in Taiwan, including Tajen University and National Sun Yat-sen University.
