Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine is a live attenuated combination vaccine indicated for active immunization for the prevention of measles, mumps, and rubella in individuals 12 months of age and older. It contains weakened strains of the measles virus (e.g., Schwarz or Edmonston-Enders), mumps virus (e.g., RIT 4385 or Jeryl Lynn), and rubella virus (RA 27/3). The vaccine works by inducing a humoral and cellular immune response, leading to the production of protective antibodies against all three pathogens. Major commercial products include GSK's Priorix and Merck's M-M-R II, which are considered interchangeable in many clinical settings. It is typically administered as a two-dose series.
