Overview

The measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV) vaccine is a live attenuated combination biologic used for the active immunization of children against four viral diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox). By combining these antigens into a single injection, the vaccine simplifies pediatric immunization schedules and improves compliance. Commercially available versions include Merck's ProQuad and GSK's Priorix-Tetra. The vaccine works by inducing a humoral and cellular immune response against the respective viruses, providing long-term protection. In clinical studies, it is often evaluated for safety and immunogenicity when co-administered with other routine pediatric vaccines like meningococcal conjugate vaccines (e.g., Menactra).
