Overview

The measles + rubella vaccine (MR) is a live attenuated combination vaccine used to confer immunity against measles and rubella. It is a core component of the National Immunisation Programme in China, where it is typically administered as a 0.5 ml subcutaneous injection to infants at 8 months of age. The vaccine contains attenuated strains of both the measles virus (Morbillivirus) and the rubella virus. Clinical trials, including those co-sponsored by the China CDC and the US CDC, have demonstrated that the MR vaccine can be safely co-administered with other childhood vaccines, such as the live attenuated Japanese encephalitis vaccine (LJEV), without compromising the immunogenicity or safety profile of either component.
