The measles rubella vaccine microneedle patch (MRV-MNP) is a biologic vaccine delivery system being developed by Micron Biomedical in collaboration with the CDC and Georgia Institute of Technology. It consists of a dissolvable microarray patch containing approximately 100 water-soluble microneedles (700 μm in length) formulated with live attenuated measles and rubella viruses. The patch is designed for intradermal delivery, offering a needle-free alternative to traditional subcutaneous injections. A key advantage of the MRV-MNP is its thermostability, maintaining activity at 40°C for up to 28 days, which potentially eliminates the need for cold-chain storage. Clinical trials, including a Phase 1/2 study in infants, toddlers, and adults, have demonstrated safety and high seroconversion rates for both measles and rubella.
