measles vaccine virus

Measles vaccine virus (MeV) is a negative-stranded RNA virus belonging to the paramyxovirus group, known for its excellent safety record as a vaccine for over 50 years. It is being investigated as an oncolytic virus (OV) for cancer therapy, particularly for pancreatic cancer. As an oncolytic virus, MeV selectively infects, replicates within, and lyses tumor cells, especially those with impaired anti-viral interferon pathways, leading to subsequent waves of oncolytic tumor cell death and induction of a profound systemic anti-tumoral immune response. Specific recombinant versions, such as MeV-SCD (suicide gene-armed vector) and MeV-GFP (carrying a green fluorescent marker protein), have been generated from original vaccine batches for research purposes.
