Measles virus vaccine live attenuated is a biologic immunizing agent used to prevent infection by the measles (rubeola) virus. It consists of a weakened (attenuated) form of the measles virus, typically derived from the Enders' Edmonston strain and propagated in chick embryo cell culture. The vaccine stimulates active immunity by inducing the body to produce protective antibodies against the measles virus, thereby preventing disease upon exposure. While monovalent formulations were previously available (e.g., Attenuvax), most current vaccines are combination products such as M-M-R II or PRIORIX, which also protect against mumps and rubella. The primary indication is for active immunization in children 12 months of age and older, but it may be used earlier in special circumstances. The main route of administration is subcutaneous or intramuscular injection[3][5][7].
