Mebendazole is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug used to treat a variety of intestinal worm infections, including pinworm (Enterobius vermicularis), whipworm (Trichuris trichiura), roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), and hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus)[1][2][3][5][6]. It works by inhibiting the formation of microtubules in parasitic worms, which disrupts glucose uptake and depletes their energy stores, ultimately leading to their death[1][6][8]. Mebendazole is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and acts primarily within the gut. It is available as chewable tablets or oral suspension for both adults and children. The drug was originally developed by Janssen Pharmaceutica[5].
