Mebendazole + ivermectin is an oral fixed-dose combination of two antiparasitic agents used for the treatment of soil-transmitted helminth infections, particularly Trichuris trichiura (whipworm). Mebendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic that inhibits microtubule synthesis in nematodes, leading to impaired glucose uptake and parasite death. Ivermectin is a macrocyclic lactone that binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in nerve and muscle cells of parasites, causing paralysis and death. The combination has demonstrated synergistic efficacy against T. trichiura, achieving higher cure rates and egg reduction rates than either drug alone. Adverse events are generally mild[1][2][4].
