Overview

Meclinertant (SR-48692) is a potent, selective, non-peptide antagonist of the neurotensin receptor NTS1. It was the first non-peptide antagonist developed for this receptor and is orally active with the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Meclinertant has been used primarily in scientific research to study neurotensin's role in physiological and pathological processes, including its interaction with other neurotransmitters in the brain. In animal studies, it has demonstrated anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), anti-addictive, and memory-impairing effects. Clinically, it was investigated for several indications such as anorexia nervosa, colorectal cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, pain management, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, schizophrenia (and schizoaffective disorders), small cell lung cancer; however, development for all these indications was discontinued[1][2][3][4][5][6].
