Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MedChew with dronabinol is a patented controlled-release chewing gum delivery system containing dronabinol, a synthetic form of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Developed by Axim Biotechnologies, it is intended for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and anorexia associated with weight loss in patients with cancer or AIDS. Dronabinol acts as an agonist at cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2. The chewing gum formulation is designed to bypass first-pass metabolism in the liver by allowing for mucosal absorption, which aims to improve bioavailability and reduce side effects compared to traditional oral capsule formulations like Marinol.
