Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MedChewRX is a medical cannabis-based chewing gum containing a 1:1 ratio of cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), typically dosed at 5mg of each per piece. Developed by AXIM Biotechnologies, the product is designed to provide a controlled, sustained release of cannabinoids through the oral mucosa, thereby bypassing first-pass liver metabolism and increasing bioavailability compared to traditional oral ingestion. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of pain and spasticity associated with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), though it has also been explored for dementia-related agitation and other neurological conditions. The mechanism of action involves the activation of cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) by THC to modulate neurotransmitter release and inflammatory pathways, while CBD provides complementary analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects and modulates the psychoactive profile of THC.
