Overview

Mederma is a leading topical brand specialized in scar management, designed to improve the color, texture, and overall appearance of scars resulting from surgery, injury, burns, and acne. The primary active ingredient across the product line is Cepalin, a proprietary botanical extract derived from *Allium cepa* (onion), which exhibits anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and fibroblast-inhibitory properties. Many formulations also include allantoin, which acts as a skin protectant and keratolytic to promote healing and hydration. By modulating collagen production and reducing inflammation, Mederma helps to soften and smooth scar tissue. Originally developed by Merz Pharmaceuticals, the brand was acquired by HRA Pharma in 2019, which was subsequently acquired by Perrigo in 2022.
