MEDI 369815 is a monovalent, live-attenuated influenza virus (LAIV) strain developed for use in clinical research, specifically within controlled human infection models (CHIM). It is based on the A/Norway/31694/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like strain, which corresponds to the World Health Organization's (WHO) recommendations for the H1N1 component of influenza vaccines for the 2023–2024 Northern Hemisphere season. The virus is engineered using a cold-adapted, temperature-sensitive, and attenuated master donor virus backbone, which restricts its replication to the cooler environment of the upper respiratory tract. Developed by AstraZeneca (MedImmune) and utilized in studies led by the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), MEDI 369815 is designed to safely induce a mild, self-limiting infection in healthy volunteers. This allows for the detailed study of viral kinetics, mucosal immunology, and the evaluation of the protective efficacy of candidate influenza vaccines and antiviral therapeutics in a controlled setting.
