Overview

MEDI7836 is a human immunoglobulin G1 lambda (IgG1_-YTE) monoclonal antibody developed to target and inhibit interleukin-13 (IL-13), a cytokine implicated in the pathogenesis of asthma and other inflammatory diseases. The antibody features YTE amino acid substitutions in its Fc region to reduce metabolic clearance and extend half-life. Its mechanism of action involves binding to IL-13, thereby suppressing its biological activity and downstream effects such as periostin production. Developed by MedImmune (now part of AstraZeneca), MEDI7836 was investigated primarily for the treatment of asthma but development was discontinued after phase 1 clinical trials[1][3][5].
