MediChip is a 3D-printed, biodegradable, and biocompatible drug-delivery mesh developed by BioSapient. Designed for localized implantation directly at a tumor site, the device can be sutured to the tumor (with designated north, south, east, and west compartments) to provide sustained release of chemotherapy agents. The platform is engineered to deliver up to five different FDA-approved drugs simultaneously, with each compartment potentially releasing drugs at different rates based on the polymer's molecular weight. Its primary goal is to provide high local concentrations of treatment for stage III locally advanced gastrointestinal cancers, such as pancreatic cancer, while minimizing the systemic side effects typically associated with traditional chemotherapy.
