Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MediClear Pre-Op is an antimicrobial medical device developed by Covalon Technologies Ltd. It is a breathable, transparent, self-adhesive silicone barrier film-drape designed for pre-operative use to isolate surgical incision sites. The device incorporates two antimicrobial agents, chlorhexidine and silver, within its silicone adhesive layer. These agents provide rapid and continuous bactericidal and fungicidal activity against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including MRSA and VRE, achieving a 99.99% reduction within 30 minutes of application. By acting as both a physical and chemical barrier, it aims to reduce the risk of contamination and surgical site infections (SSIs) prior to and during surgical procedures. It received FDA clearance in 2017 and is available over-the-counter in the United States.
