Overview

Medidur FA is a tiny, injectable intravitreal device designed to provide sustained release of fluocinolone acetonide (FA), a synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid, directly to the retina. The device consists of a 180 μg core of fluocinolone acetonide encased in a polyimide cylinder with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) end caps that regulate drug release. It is administered via injection into the vitreous using a 25-gauge needle in an office setting. The insert delivers very low doses of fluocinolone acetonide (0.2 or 0.5 μg/day) for up to three years and is primarily developed for the treatment of diabetic macular edema (DME). Its mechanism involves anti-inflammatory effects and reduction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression, thereby decreasing retinal vascular permeability and edema[1][3][5][7].
