Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Medilac-S is a probiotic pharmaceutical product containing a combination of live bacteria, specifically *Bacillus subtilis* (strain R-179) and *Enterococcus faecium* (strain R-026). Developed and manufactured by Hanmi Pharmaceutical, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders including diarrhea, constipation, and dyspepsia resulting from intestinal flora imbalance. The mechanism of action involves the colonization of the gut by beneficial bacteria, which compete with and inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms, produce essential B vitamins, and secrete enzymes that aid digestion. It is also frequently used to prevent or treat antibiotic-associated diarrhea by replenishing the natural microbial population of the digestive tract.
