MedioCROSS

MedioCROSS is a family of sterile, CE‑marked ophthalmic riboflavin 5‑phosphate formulations used as photosensitizing solutions for corneal collagen cross‑linking procedures in keratoconus, iatrogenic corneal ectasia, and related corneal ectatic disorders.[1][2][9] These products (TE, M, D, H) contain 0.1–0.25% riboflavin in various vehicles (dextran, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, isotonic or hypotonic solutions, with or without benzalkonium chloride) to optimize diffusion through intact or de‑epithelialized cornea while maintaining corneal thickness for safe UVA exposure.[1][2][3][9] During treatment, topically applied riboflavin absorbs UVA light, generating reactive oxygen species that induce covalent cross‑links within stromal collagen and extracellular matrix, thereby increasing biomechanical rigidity of the cornea and stabilizing or slowing progression of ectasia.[1][2][16] The formulations were originally developed and manufactured by Medio‑Haus (Germany) and are now supplied and globally distributed through Avedro, a Glaukos company, as part of its cross‑linking platform.[1][2][6][8][10]
